FOCUSING ON LAB AND AMR: TWO CONCERNED MINISTRIES’ EFFORTS THE 2nd WORKSHOP OF DETECT 1 [NATIONAL LABORAORY SYSTEM] 8-10 FEBRUARY 2017,NONTHABURI,THAILAND

   Reference is made to the statement of His Excellency, Prime Minister of Thailand, General Prayut Chan-o-Cha, on behalf of G 77 Countries at the High - Level Meeting on Antimicrobial Resistance, 21 September 2016, at UN Headquarter, New York, of which calling for nations’ commitment to tackling on antimicrobial resistance.  

   In pursuant to that, Dr. Sukhum Karnchanapimai, Director General of the Department of Medical Sciences, announces that the two concerned Ministries: Ministry of Public Health through Department of Medical Sciences, and the Ministry of Agriculture through Department of Livestock development will jointly host the Workshop of GHSA Detect 1 [National Laboratory System] during 8-10 February   2017, at Richmond Hotel, Nonthaburi, Thailand, under the theme of “ Enhancing Joint Collaborative Efforts for Lab Preparedness”.

   AMR related to laboratory will be tabled during this 3- Day Workshop including expert presentations, visiting of AMR labs both human health lab at the National Institute of Health as well as animal health lab at the National Institute Animal Health. The participants will discuss on strengthening coordination and collaboration between human health laboratory and animal health laboratory in advancing lab preparedness and responses.

   During these 3 days, countries and development partners will be sharing experiences of laboratory preparedness and responses from key affected countries during outbreaks occurred such as MERS from Republic of Korea, Ebola from South Africa, Nipah Virus from Malaysia, and Avian Influenza from Indonesia.

The Workshop will be attended by representatives of both animal health laboratories and human health laboratories from many countries including:

  •  Lead countries [USA, Thailand, and South Africa];
  • Contributing countries [China, Japan, and Malaysia];
  • ASEAN Member States [Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Malaysia , Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Viet Nam];
  • South East Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) [Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal]; and
  • Timor Leste.

   Experts and key developments partners are also in attendance to join efforts with nations including FAO, OIE, WHO [Headquarter, Western Pacific Region, South East Asia Region, and Thailand], USAID [Headquarter, Indonesia, and Thailand], TUC, JICA, AFRIM, Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), and Global Partnership Program (GPP Canada)].
